This piece started as an abstract, botanical composition in pencil designed by Barbara Holmer of Greenbower Studios, Flushing, MI. A grey-scale print was subsequently sent to Patrick Edwards at the French-American School of Marquetry in San Francisco, who then committed the design to panel form (approx. 12 x 18). In conjunction with Ms. Holmar and her partner Robert Stanisch, I then designed this piece in keeping with the concept of the abstract presentation. The inset panel, of multiple veneers, suggests an exterior scene exposed through several window panes. The flared base suggests a rooted anchoring of the table while retaining a light and airy feeling captured by "floating" the top. The bulk of the table was constructed from a single walnut board with the exception of the curly maple cross stretcher.
This cherry vanity with gold leaf accents was designed for a half bath in a builder's custom model home in Clarkston, MI. Upon installation, the piece was to receive a natural stone vessel bowl. A large ornate mirror completed the ensemble.
